Mildred L. Simons, 94, of Akron, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at her home.
She was born September 30, 1919 in Siluria, AL to Foy W. and Madge (Armstrong) Jones.
It was 70 years ago that Millie met the love of her life while serving as a nurse at Hunter Field Army-Air Force base in Savannah, Georgia. Millie and Oz's story is nothing short of the makings of a love novel, and the two of them overcame many obstacles in order to fulfill their destiny and spend the rest of their lives together. Millie spent the next 70 years as a devoted wife, mother, volunteer and homemaker.
Heaven has truly gained its sweetest angel. We will miss her kindness, her nurturing ways and her warm, gentle heart.
We will see you again one day, Gram. We all love you so much.
She is survived by her husband, Orlando "Oz" Simons, whom she married on May 8, 1944; son, James (Sharon) Simons of Perrysburg; daughter, Carol Musch of Akron; grandchildren, Amy (Wayne) Cleveland, Jennifer (Dan) Williams, Camaron (Nate) Young, and Andrew (Ali) Simons; ten great grandchildren (who brought tremendous joy to her life); and sister, Polly Ozley of Columbus, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Ralph Jones and Charles Jones.
Special thanks to Dr. Jay Williamson for his many years of kindness and compassion; also to Crossroads Hospice for everything they have done to help our family.
Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, October 5th at Christ Methodist Church, 380 Mineola Avenue, Akron OH 44320.
