Minnie Elizabeth (Truitt) Tompkins

January 9, 1929 — April 27, 2020

Minnie Elizabeth Truitt Tompkins of Kent, OH passed away on Monday, April 27th of natural causes. When she died a bright star appeared in the sky and left the world a little darker. Born in Millhaven, Georgia on January 9th, 1929, Minnie moved to Newark, New Jersey where she met her husband, Leonard. With their young children in tow, Leonard and Minnie moved to Kent and became active with the Saint Patrick Church and the Kent ­­­­­­­Community. Minnie self-taught herself bookkeeping, while raising six children. Diagnosed in 1995, Minnie is a breast cancer survivor. A lifelong learner with an eclectic taste in music, Minnie was a passionate, creative gardener, a bird enthusiast, and a veracious reader and collector of fiction, cookbooks and encyclopedias.

Minnie is the beloved mother of Gary (Wendy Roberts), Ronald (Linda), Caroline, Michael (Natty), Christopher, and Judy (Jason Ziesch); grandmother of Mwenza Blell (Elgan Leighton John), Michael (Sara) Eyo, Philip Tompkins, Matthew Eyo, Myles Eyo, and Kashe Varner; and great-grandmother of Malcom Eyo, Isaac Eyo, Zwleika Blell John, and McKenzie Eyo. Minnie is preceded in death by husband Leonard, parents John and Rita Truitt, and eleven siblings.

Calling hours will be from 11am to 1pm on Monday, May 11th at the Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent, followed by services at 1pm. Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the service will be limited to immediate relatives, however it will be broadcasted on a live stream on Facebook.
