Myra Therese Mcmanus

February 15, 1921 — March 9, 2015

Myra McManus, 94, passed away at Maison Aine, Stow, on March 9, 2015. Mrs. McManus, formerly of Kentway Apartments, Kent, and originally from Dublin, Ireland, is survived by her two daughters, Pervaneh Matthews of Dublin, Ireland, and Una McManus of Harrisburg, Penn.

Mrs. McManus is survived by six grandsons: David Pyne of Dublin; Thomas Pyne of London; Eoin Pyne of Dublin; John Krownapple of Maryland, Micheal Krownapple of Missouri; and Matthew Reitz of Maryland; ten great-grandchildren, and five nieces. Myra was preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years, Martin Joseph "Gus" McManus in 1991.

Myra was most proud when she achieved U.S. citizenship, but could "keep her Irish." She enjoyed working for Kent Visiting Nurse Association and various volunteer groups in her years of residency at Kentway, including one making quilts for veterans.

A fervent Catholic, Myra enjoyed singing with the Sunday choir at St. Patrick's church in Kent as well as reading for her book club. And she was quite pleased with her poems for the first senior citizen writing group organized through the Wick Poetry Center.

Fondly known as Mrs. Mac, Myra was the beloved babysitter for many Kent families, including the Scharlotte, Springer, Dix, Thomas, Sandstrom, Bialik, Buckeye, Havre, Meeker, Tennenbaum and Gibson-Jalbert families. Plus, there were dozens of children she "friended" - for special occasions or who visited their "babysittered" friends, only to get pressed into chopping vegetables or perhaps escorting her to a movie. She brought joy with her special witticisms. Myra would have been "over the moon!" if we could just remember them.

Special thanks to Deb Scharlotte and Barb (and Bob) Springer. Their children - Owen, David and Jacob Scharlotte and Kyla Springer Yeoman and Anna Hipsman Springer - will miss her kindly banter. We appreciate that her family and her grandchildren let us borrow her day-to-day.

Myra kept dozens of photos around her apartment of the Krownapple, Reitz and Matthews families and her beloved Gus to remind her of your love. And she was more than willing to offer any visitor a "tour" of her family.

Staff at Maison Aine (Stow) and Maplewood Care Center (Streetsboro) as well as Stow-Glen provided special care when Myra wasn't sure about life in the throes of Alzheimers and Dementia. The family in Ireland and the friends here could never offer enough thanks for their hard work, their kind words and finally - consistency. Also honored is Robinson Hospital Hospice, which provided supplemental care, again offering respite for those who couldn't always be at her side. We would be remiss to not mention TownHall II Medical Clinic. Without it, Myra could not have had her health for so many years before entering the homes.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. Patrick Church in Kent with an hour of visitation prior to the Mass. Private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider an honorary donation c/o Myra McManus to either TownHall II, 155 N. Water Street, Kent, OH 44240 or Robinson Memorial Hospice Services, P. O. Box 1204, Ravenna, OH 44266.
