Nancy R. Hansford, 83, of Kent passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 26, 2013.
Nancy was born November 18, 1929 in Kent, to E. Redmond and Ruth (Gibson) Greer. After graduating from Kent Roosevelt High School, Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Hansford, 65 years ago this past October 2nd and was a devoted wife and mother. Nancy and Bruce had two children: Susan and David. Nancy was also a "second mom" to many nieces, nephews, and anyone who needed her. She was a very loving woman who made everyone feel welcome. Bruce and Nancy's home became a "halfway house" and second home for many friends and relatives.
Nancy was a very active member of the Kent United Church of Christ, Olive Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Republican Party, as well as many other community organizations. To list her many roles and her service to the church, community, government, and Masonic organizations would be difficult because Nancy seemed to be involved in everything in one way or another. She influenced all in which she became involved. Each organization, group, committee, family, or individual with whom she was associated will remember her many roles and her influence as a role-model and mentor for family, church, service, and leadership.
Nancy did much more for many people than she ever realized. Those who knew her feel fortunate to have had her in their lives. She was a strong amazing woman with an unparalleled zest for living and doing whatever she could wherever or whenever she could. She was a woman of tremendous energy and strength.
Nancy will be deeply missed by her husband of 65 years, Bruce W. Hansford, whom she married October 2, 1948; son, David (Kay) Hansford of Kent; daughter, Susan Hansford of Kent; granddaughters, Rachel (Matthew) Carter of Sagamore Hills, Emily (Jen Brown) of Atlanta, and Ashley (Richard) Peepers of Columbus; great-granddaughters, Haley Stanford, Mariah Bernards, Mallory Carter, and Margaux and Miranda Basart; sister, Jean Sisson of Kent; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
