Noel Miles Blankenship, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025.
He was born in Buckhannon, WV, to Claude and Mae (Martin) Blankenship.
Noel was a pro baseball player (Akron Baseball Hall of Fame - 2015 inductee), Professor Emeritus at Kent State University, avid golfer (local champ!), coal miner, and proud hillbilly from West Virginia. He loved the out-of-doors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had an insatiable appetite for learning and read constantly. Anyone that knows him knows he is a legend around Kent and surely has a funny story about him.
Noel is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Nancy; children, Drema (Doug) Mallchok, Donya (Chad) Muse, Zac Blankenship, Alexis Blankenship, and Kurt Blankenship; grandchildren, Skyler, Cody, Ellie, Morgan, Hunter, Lance, and Ryan; great grandchildren, Gunnar, Spencer, and Sage; brother, Barry (LeeAnn) Blankenship; and brother-in-law, Emory Leaseburge. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ryan and Lance; sister, Elaine Leaseburge; and his parents.
Donations may be made to Hattie Larlham Foundation in memory of his sons Ryan and Lance. Family will have a private service in celebration of Noel’s life. He is truly missed by family and friends.
Services in care of Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 West Main Street, Kent, OH 44240.
