Nunzio "Foot" Garro, 91, of Kent, peacefully passed away with his family at his side Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL.
Born November 23, 1922 in Ravenna, to Lorenzo and Josephine Garro. Nunzio graduated from Ravenna High School in 1940. He was a veteran of the Army serving with the 33rd Infantry Division during World War II. Nunzio was formerly employed at Byers Machine, the Ravenna Arsenal, and retired from Portage Distributing and the Kent State Golf Course. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent, Knights of Columbus, Christopher Columbus Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Foot was an avid golfer and was proud of the three holes in one that he shot. He enjoyed wintering in Lakeland, Florida with Jeanette, for the last 19 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette A. (Bianchi), whom he married on July 24, 1965; sons, Michael and Mark (April) Garro both of SlatyFork, WV; sisters, Carmella Garro of Hudson and Mary (Ernest) Kauffman of CA; sisters-in-law, Joan Garro of Hudson, Jeanne Garro of AZ and Joyce (Deno) Lanari of Kent; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Michelina Garro; brothers, Sam and Jerry Garro.
Calling hours will be held 4-8 PM Monday, January 27th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 28th at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's School Endowment Fund, 127 Portage Street, Kent, OH 44240.
