Orville B. Shaffer, "O.B.", passed away at home on Sunday, May 3, 2015.
Born October 6, 1926 in Middleburg, PA to Florence (Rhine) and LeRoy Shaffer. He has lived in the Kent area since the age of three. O.B. graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1944. A WWII veteran, O.B. served in the United States Navy aboard destroyer USS Stribling. O.B. was a retired bricklayer and gold card member of the Akron Local #7, and a life member of the American Legion Post #496 Kent. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Kent. In his younger days, he enjoyed bowling, golf, and camping. O.B. was an avid fisherman and loved being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen Pauline (Smith) Shaffer. Also preceded in death by parents, Florence (Rhine) and LeRoy Shaffer; brother Leon Shaffer; and sister, Alvaretta Shaffer. Survivors include his son, Larry Shaffer of Trona, CA.; daughter, Nancy Rhodes of Stow; granddaughter, Jennifer (John) Briggs of Stow; and sister, Evelyn Salisbury of Nashville, TN. Private funeral services have been arranged.
