Paul V. Long

April 20, 1932 — November 2, 2021

Kent

Paul V. Long, age 89, of Kent and currently residing at Laurel Lake in Hudson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Paul was born to John and Kathryn A. (Lynch) Long.  He graduated from Rootstown High School where he played varsity football, basketball, and track.  He then attended Kent State University until enlisting in the US Army to serve with the 89th tank battalion in the Korean War where he earned the rank of sergeant first class.  Following his service in the Army, he worked at the Chrysler Twinsburg Stamping Plant until 1989 when he retired after 36 years of dedicated service.  Paul lived a life of service to his country, his community, and to his family with humility and with grace.

Paul's great passion was in crafting things from steel or stone or earth but, mostly, he liked working with wood.  His creations were shared with family and friends and he always knew just how to fashion a piece to make it functional, beautiful, and unique.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elaine (Bassett) Long; his son Tim, daughters Lorrey (Dave) Palmer and Pam (Paul) Pinkie; four grandchildren (Cori, Aaron, Ben, and Alex); and four great grandchildren (Tyson, Elan, Maya, and Max).  He will be missed.

A private memorial service has been held at Laurel Lake Retirement Community

Memorials in honor of Paul’s life and service can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Paul’s remains have been cremated at Bissler and Son’s Funeral Home in Kent and his ashes will be interred at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
