Peter "Pete" Michael Spano, age 91, of Kent, died on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at home with his family by his side.
Pete was born on his mother’s birthday, March 12, 1930, in Ravenna, to the late Bruno and Mary (DeGregorio) Spano.
He attended Ravenna High School, lettering in baseball. Member of the PA National Guard and was a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. 65-year member of St. Patrick Catholic Parish in Kent, where he served as an usher for 50 years. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. 44-year career as a Truck Driver, retiring from Smith & Cowan/Collinwood/Horning.
On May 23, 1963, while on the job he passed a burning house with 2 children trapped inside. He pulled a toddler boy to safety and reentered the home to rescue an infant girl. He received 2 commendations for bravery, one from the Ravenna Chamber of Commerce and one from the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 40 years, Phyllis Spano; sisters, Philomena, Elizabeth, Rosemary, Frances, and Mary; brothers, Dominic, Patrick, and Samuel.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Spano, Karol (Jim White) Spano; son, Michael Spano; granddaughter, Jennifer (Justin) Lowther; and the joys of his life, great-granddaughters, Izabella & Alexzandria Lowther; brother, John Spano.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Chad Johnson officiating. Private Burial with military honors will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
