Longtime Kent resident Philip K. Baker, 75, passed away peacefully on January 10, surrounded by loved ones, following a long illness.
Phil was born on November 5, 1943, in Shelby, Ohio, to Kenneth E. and Winifred (Ebersole) Baker, and grew up in Plymouth, Ohio. A graduate of Kent State University, he lived in Kent for more than 40 years and was a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army. Phil's career included a number of years with Parker-Hannifin, among other companies, and culminated in the two positions he enjoyed most: working in rehabilitation services for the State of Ohio and, after retirement, teaching literacy and math skills to G.E.D. students at Maplewood Career Center. Phil was a positive, generous person with a passion for music, pottery, books and humor. Above all, he cherished his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth E. Baker, Jr., Phil is survived by his children, Andrew Baker (Jerrica Damask), Jay Kline, Michael Kline (Joanne Long) and Kerry Kline (Paul Velazco); granddaughter, Gianna and another grandchild to be born this month; daughter-in-law Lois Kline; sister, Sharyn Davis; nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, cousins, and a host of longtime friends.
Thank you to Cleveland Clinic/Akron General, UH Portage Medical Center's Radiation Oncology Department, Ohio Living Rockynol, Autumnwood Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care of Phil.
