Pierre Miller Dubois

January 26, 1926 — July 4, 2012

Pierre Miller DuBois went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 4, 2012. He was born on January 26, 1926 in Ravenna, Ohio to John Harold DuBois and Marie Miller DuBois. Pierre lived most of his life in Kent until moving to Stow twelve years ago. He attended Hiram schools and graduated from Kent State High School. Following graduation in 1944 he served as an army medic in World War II. Much of his service was aboard a hospital ship based in Le Harve, France which supported action in Europe. He also served in the Korean War. He met his first wife Phyllis Price after the war in a hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan.

He attended Miami University and worked for a number of years at Lamb Electric. Later he was involved in Kent's real estate development and was a Board officer for DuBois Book Store, Inc. which was founded by his father. Pierre married Mildred (Millie) Poulton in 1968. The two worked as tour guides for Bixler Tours and enjoyed traveling with friends to Europe, the Mediterranean, South America and Africa. Pierre was active in community affairs including Boy Scouts and service to his church, the Kent United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Prime Timers, Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria, Florida, Men's Garden Club of Kent, Couples Bridge Clubs, Tree City Campers, Stow Sunshiners and several bowling leagues. For many years he was a regular blood donor and he and Millie together delivered Meals on Wheels for over 25 years.

Pierre was a history buff and he loved to read, play Bridge and Pinochle, camp, travel with his family and friends and spend time with his beloved shih-tzu, Scotty. Preceding him in death were his parents John Harold and Marie DuBois of Kent, first wife Phyllis, sister Harriet Labajetta, brother Fredric DuBois and very recently his wife Millie. Pierre was dearly loved by his family: son John Harmon DuBois of Kent, step-daughters Jacquelyn (Steve) Hughes of Stow, Pamela Ward of Garland, Texas, and Teresa (Al) Christopherson of Jackson, WI. He leaves brothers J. Howard DuBois of Oxford, OH, John Harold DuBois, Jr. of Pacific Grove, CA, Paul (Carol) DuBois of Yardley, PA and sister-in-law Polly Slama of Fort Worth, TX. Also surviving are grandchildren Sheri Lori DuBois of Kent, Steven (Susan) Mileski of Kent, Tiffany (Darrell) Lewis of Stow, Tyler (Katie) Straub of Fairbanks, Alaska, Christopher (Darlene) Straub of Frisco, TX, Ted Ciano of Myrtle Beach, S.C, Jody (Toby) Thomann of Jackson, WI, and Nicole Ciano of Milwaukee, WI. Pierre also leaves behind 9 adored great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Heather Wicks of the United Church of Christ at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent at 1:00 p.m. Monday July 9th. Memorial contributions may be made in Pierre's name to Golden Treasures Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 434, Bath, OH 44210 or to your favorite pet rescue foundation.

Special thanks to Altercare Rehabilitation Center of Brimfield for their exceptional compassion, love and care for Pierre during his stay and also to Harbor Light Hospice Center of Kent the past two weeks.
