Polly Starr Donaghy, beloved wife of the late Dan Getz Donaghy and beloved mother of Anne Merritt Donaghy and Catherine Curtis Donaghy, died peacefully June 20, 2018.
Born in Connecticut, Mrs. Donaghy grew up in Hudson and moved to Kent at the time of her marriage in 1960. She joined her husband at the Campus Supply, where she utilized her encyclopedic knowledge of children's books.
She was happiest digging in her garden, hiking the trails of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and exploring museums. She loved textiles and enjoyed knitting and needlepoint. She was also a skilled seamstress and created costumes for theatre productions, from giant bunny suits to pickles to the Continental Congress. She read extensively and enjoyed theatre, classical music, and opera.
Mrs. Donaghy was the daughter of John James Starr, Jr and Anne (Curtis) Starr and sister-in-law of Merritt Donaghy Betts who predecease her. In addition to her daughters she is survived by her sons-in-law Chris Steele and Franklin Jones, brothers Jack (Sandie) Starr and Chris (Claudia) Starr, nieces, nephews and cousins by marriage Judy West and Rob Kelly.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 26 at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent with Rev. Carol Evans officiating. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory are handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Kent Social Services 1066 South Water Street Kent, Ohio, 44240.
