Porter B. Hall, 89, of Kent, died Friday, July 10, 2015 at Kent Healthcare Center.
He was born August 3, 1925 in Cleveland, to Howard G. and Celeste C (Crittenden) Hall. An alumnus of both Kent Roosevelt High School (1943) and Kent State University (1949), Porter worked in finance for 43 years, retiring from Wachovia Securities in 1997. He was a veteran of the Army serving in "B" Company, 302nd Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division earning a purple heart during his service in World War II. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Kent, the Kent State University President's Club, and was a loyal member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Porter's favorite community organization was the Kent Rotary Club, of which he was an active member for 60 years. Porter spent much of his free time at the Twin Lakes Country Club, which he and his wife referred to as their home away from home. They spent many wonderful years playing golf, serving on committees and socializing with wonderful friends as they enjoyed the view from the deck. For 20 years, he took his family to Fort Myers, Florida where he enjoyed walking the beach, sightseeing, flying kites, relaxing and spending time with his family. He spent his summer vacations in Gun Lake, Michigan, one of his favorite places on earth since the age of four. He enjoyed spending hours ferrying kids and grandkids around the lake and hunting for turtles and frogs.
He is survived by his wife, Dona May (Burkhardt) Hall, whom he married on May 24, 1952; sons, Thomas Hall of Kent and Larry (Dorothy) Hall of Seattle, WA; daughter, Susan (David) Haren of Kent; grandchildren, Lindsay (Joe) Carter of Stow, Porter (Lauren) Hall of Berkeley, CA, Corey, Troy, and Rosaleigh Haren all of Kent; great granddaughters, Ella, Ava and Lyla Carter of Stow. Besides his loving and devoted family, he leaves behind the Flower family of Kent and Columbus; nephews, Jack Conley of Aurora and Jimmy Spaetti of Evansville, IN; nieces, Jill (Paul) Barbuto of Kent, Karen (Randy) Calvert and Patty (Richard) Heerdink both of Evansville, IN; and sister-in-law, Gale (Richard) Carter of Bradenton Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard G. Hall; aunt, Marie Redmond, and daughter-in-law, Linda Hall.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Gables of Kent Ridge, Kent Health Care Center, Crossroads Hospice, and Dr. David Fantelli for their gentle and loving care.
Calling hours will be held 4-7 PM Monday, July 20th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 21st with Pastor Rick McKee officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
