Raymond William Knapp, loving husband, father and grandfather, age 76, passed away peacefully on March 29th, 2012 at his home surrounded by family. He was born January 3, 1936 in Kent, Ohio to John and Florence (Kline) Knapp.
Ray was a life-long resident of Kent. He was an Army Veteran, serving in Germany as a radio intercept operator.
He loved baseball, was an avid golfer and enjoyed being involved in community activities. He retired from the insurance industry after 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, JoAnn (Griggy) Knapp; his son Raymond Knapp of Ravenna, Ohio; son William Tarver of Kent, OH; son Christopher (Cindy) Knapp of Dover, DE; daughter Elizabeth Knapp of Stow, OH; son Andrew (Heather) Knapp of Kent, OH and daughter Juliann (Rene) Ferrusquia of Stow, OH.
Survivors also include brothers John (Sophie) Knapp of Elyria, OH; Rev. Donald (Virginia) Knapp of Allentown, PA; Tom (Norma - deceased) Knapp of Fremont, CA; Gary (Cathy) Knapp of Stow, OH. Grandchildren include; Benjamin, Ellie and Emma Knapp (Christopher); Jacob, Brandon and Derek Knapp (Andy); Sophia, Andrea and Lucilla Perez (Juliann); Nicole, Mariah, Hannah, Lauren & Brianna (William); and 52 nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his brother Bernard Knapp of Mandeville, LA, and sister-in-law Norma Knapp of Kent, OH.
The family would like to thank his family, friends and neighbors for their support, along with the Robinson Visiting Nurses and Hospice.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 4th at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church in Kent followed by burial at Standing Rock Cemetery
