Richard Edward "Rich" Gauer, 90, of Kent, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Akron City Hospital Medical Center.
He was born June 25, 1921 in Kent to George John and Dora Mary (Griggy) Gauer. Richard was a 1939 Graduate of Roosevelt High. He was a WWII U S Army Veteran. He was a member of the Teamsters Retirees Fellowship Club Local 64 and many square dance clubs "Chain Gang, Swing-A -Lings, Silvertown, and Merri-Lou-Rounds".
Rich was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and playing cards with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Zolton) Gauer, whom he married on May 4, 1946 at St. Peter's Church Cleveland; daughter, Carol (Kenneth Swisher) of Smithville; grandchild, James Starr of Canton; great grandchildren, Ashley and Trenton Starr; aunt, Neita Griggy; brother, Charles (Ruth) Gauer. He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter (Laverne) Gauer.
Calling hours will be held 6-8 PM Thursday, February 16th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home 628 West Main Street, Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Friday, February 17th at St. Patrick Church with Father Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
