Richard Williams Gressard of Kent, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 after a short illness. He was born July 18, 1952 to William M and Margaret Fageol Gressard and was a graduate of Kent State University High School and Kent State University.
He was president and owner of The Tavern At Twin Lakes for the past 30 years. It was his pride and his joy and that was evident when one walked into his welcoming place. He really did appreciate his family and friends and so many great customers for helping to make his business such an amazing success.
Richard had been a resident of Portage County and Franklin Township most all of his life, and he treasured the history his family shared with the area and was proud to be a descendant of the Fageols, Merrills, Haymakers, and Olins.
He had many passions in life, including golf, which he was exceptional at. One of the highlights of his life was winning the Twin Lakes Country Club golf championship, proudly following his father's 14 previous wins.
He had a love of warmth, sunshine, water, his 1972 blue Ford "Scooby Doo" van as well as a love for animals always present in his life, Lemon the cockatoo.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Margaret. He is survived by his siblings, Bill (Cheri), Bob, and Gwen; aunts, Betty Gressard and Esther Gressard; and numerous cousins all over the country. He also leaves so many special friends - way too many to list. He also had a special bond with and will be greatly missed by his "Tavern Girls", and his many employees past and present. He leaves us to remember his beautiful smile and his welcoming and warm personality.
Special thanks to all who cared for Richard at University Hospitals - ICU and Hospice Palliative care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Rose's Rescue, in Richard's name or to your local ASPCA. Donations may also be made to University Hospitals Hospice care.
Per Richard's request, there will be no funeral service, but a celebration party of his life at a later date.
