Richard M. “Dick” Haas, 82, of Kent, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Western Reserve Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born in Weston, WV on February 12, 1939 to the late Joseph and Mary Haas. Richard’s family relocated to Kent when he was three years old. He was a 1957 graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School and proudly served in the United States Army.
Richard was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf in his younger years. He loved his NASCAR, Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Miami Redhawks and Kent State Golden Flashes. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandson’s sporting events.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patty Haas and Pam Flynt and his brother Bill Haas.
Richard leaves his wife Gerry, whom he married on August 30, 2008; daughters, Tanya (Dan) Salopek and Tami Haas; grandchildren, Matthew and Danielle Salopek; stepdaughters, Carrie Ward and Chris Doehring; siblings Steve Haas, Til Haas and Frances Heeter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00AM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240. Burial will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
