Richard Seaton Maher, 72, of Kent, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born in Abington, PA on September 26, 1950 and was a 1968 graduate of North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA. Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served during the Vietnam War as a machine gunner, earning a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Rifle Expert Badge, Combat Action Ribbon and Pistol Sharpshooter Badge,
He was a member of the Mud Run Sportsman Association, an avid trap and sporting clays shooter and loved going fishing in Maine and New Brunswick. He Always enjoyed the fishing and company at Wheaton’s Lodge for the past 50 years. The only year he ever missed going to Maine was when he was deployed in 1970.
Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Richard relocated to Kent, where he attended Kent State University and was employed at Willoughby’s in Akron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Seaton Maher and Ruth Elaine Maher.
Survivors include his sisters, Cynthia Maher of Souderton, PA and Michele (John) Sherwood of Perkasie, PA; nephews Scott (Erica) Sherwood of Doylestown, PA and Craig (Alyson) Sherwood of Hatfield, PA; and his beloved dog Spike.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 1:00-3:00PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240.
