Richard Lee Ragan

October 13, 1930 — February 2, 2021

Richard Lee Ragan died peacefully in his home on February 2, 2021 at the age of 90. He was born in 1930 in Campbellsport, Ohio.

He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School and attended Akron University. Richard worked as an accountant for Ohio Edison for 31 years. He served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Germany from 1951-1953.

Anyone who knew Richard understood that his favorite place was on a lake. He began a lifetime of fishing as a boy on the shores of Lake Brady, and Richard loved to share his passion for fishing with everyone important to him. Fishing until he was 89 years old, he enjoyed the catches and delight of his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even more than his own. When not on the lake, Richard could be found at the lanes, where he was an accomplished bowler who scored multiple perfect games. Richard was also a masterful puzzler, eagerly working through crosswords and jumbles until his final day.

Richard cared deeply for his friends and family, and was adored as a regular at Giant Eagle and the American Legion with his faithful friend, Roger. He is survived by two children Sharon (Bernie) Polz and Robert (Mindy) Ragan, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife of 60 years, Lois Mae Ragan, and brother Samuel Ragan. Richard will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but we are grateful that he remained in good health and lived independently until his peaceful passing.

Cremation has occurred in the care of Bissler and Sons Crematory of Kent. Family of Richard will celebrate him in a private ceremony, and donations can be made in Richard’s honor to the Animal Protective League of Portage County.
