Richard E. “Dick” Rhoads passed away on January 28, 2022, at the age of 89, following a brief illness.
As a boy, Dick won the soap box derby in 1947. He was a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School and went on to college, before joining the Army. Dick was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
After Dick left the service, he worked for Lamb Electric as a draftsman before starting his own business Copy Print with his wife Janet in 1971. They supported each other every step of the way until retirement.
Dick was well known in the Kent community and played a prominent role in Downtown Kent Corporation and the Kent Jaycee’s, serving in various positions including president, vice president and secretary. Dick was a member of the Twin Lakes Association for many years. He loved having fun and playing cards with family and friends! Most importantly, he was a family man and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Martha Rhoads; his brothers Robert “Bob” and Chet Rhoads; and his beautiful daughter Cindy (Rhoads) Burgess in 2020.
Dick leaves his loving wife, of 68 years, Janet (Wingard) Rhoads; children, Richard “Mark” (Debbie) Rhoads and Jill Rhoads with her husband Eric Stahl; five grandchildren, Erica (Greg) Loeser of Twinsburg, Jamie (Ben) Murphy of Kent, Jeff Rhoads of Lakewood, Brittany (Boo) Jackson of Reading, and Brooke (Corey) Whaley of Cuyahoga Falls; six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bissler and Sons Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family will hold a private service and celebration of Dick’s life at a date to be determined.
