Richard A. "Rick" Rowe

August 13, 1946 — September 11, 2013

Richard (Rick) A. Rowe, 67, of Streetsboro passed away on September 11, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with complications from diabetes. Rick was born August 13, 1946 to Charles Irving and Opal Mae (Squires) Rowe in Fairmont, WV. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Mae Woods of Akron and Emma Jean James of Fairmont. He will be dearly missed and always loved by his survivors, wife Jane (Cowan), sons Brad of Yerington, Nevada and David of Paso Robles, California, grandchildren Chynna, Richard, Alexander, Tucker and Colby, brothers Charles (Beverly) of Pennsylvania, Bob (Dixie) of Florida, and Ron (Barbara) of Akron, as well as many adoring nieces, nephews and friends.

After graduating from West Fairmont High School in 1966, Rick served in the Army as 1st Lt., seeing combat action in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam in 1968-69. He graduated from The University of Akron in 1975 with a degree in business education and taught 2 years at Y'East Junior High School in Hood River, Oregon and 28 years at James A. Garfield High School in Garrettsville. Rick excelled in sports and was a star basketball player. He coached girls' basketball at Garfield High School. During summers, Rick enjoyed working in his garden and operating a small road-side market where he sold his vegetables. He also enjoyed travelling, skiing, playing softball, and entertaining his friends and family. Rick is remembered for his passion for living life to the fullest and for his original wit and humor, his honesty and generosity, and his caring spirit.

Friends and family may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday, September 15th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 16th with Rev. Byron George officiating.
