Richard M. "Rick" Vardaris Ph.D., 77, of Kent, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Akron City Hospital Medical Center.
He was born November 28, 1934 in Lakewood to Florence (Read) and George Vardaris. He was a veteran of the Air Force during the Korean War.
Dr. Vardaris received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Experimental Psychology from Case Western Reserve University in 1962. His degrees of Master of Science (1967) and Doctor of Philosophy (1968) were awarded in Medical Psychology by the University of Oregon College of Medicine. Upon completing graduate studies, he joined the Psychology faculty at Kent State University in Ohio. There he played a seminal role in creating the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. He was Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Kent State University.
His wife, Kay (Vatter) Vardaris, passed away Septemeber 26th, 2012.
He is survived by his sons, Paul (Gretchyn) Vardaris of Lakewood and Matthew (Tiffany) Vardaris of North Arlington; grandchildren, Nicholas L Vardaris, Zachary B. Vardaris, and Corwin Arvin; nieces, Alice Reid-Oates, Susan Reid, and Kathy Iverhouse; and nephews, Jeff Reid and Phil Reid.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Raymond (Miriam) Reid.
A Memorial Service will be held 11AM Saturday, October 20th 2012 at the United Church of Christ Of Kent 1400 E. Main Street Kent, Ohio. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler and Sons Funeral Home.
