Richard W. Sly, 91 of Kent, passed away on Sunday April 13, 2014. He was born May 24, 1922 in Erie, Pa to Ralph and Lida (Brewer) Sly. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Seabee in the S. Pacific. After the service he worked as a machinist and ultimately retired from Terex Corporation as Sr. Tool Engineer. With Terex he held positions in the U.S. and also in Brazil, where he lived with his family for 5 years.
Richard was an avid golfer all his life. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and sailing. Most important to him was family. He always had time for anything his wife, children or grandchildren were involved in. No matter where he lived, he was always involved in a local church.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Jean Sly and his parents. He is survived by his spouse, Leah Marie (Crocker) Sly of Kent; brother, Robert E. Sly of FL; sons, Thomas R. Sly (Mary) of Sugar Bush Knolls and Robert W. Sly of Kent; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 1:00 PM at the Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Crossroads Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences and memories can be shared at www.bisslerandsons.com.
