Rob Letzel, 71, of Twin Lakes, died June 20, 2021.
He was born August 16, 1949 in Barberton, Ohio to Roy and Mae (Samuelson) Letzel.
Rob graduated from Barberton High School in 1967 and from the University of Akron in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education. He began his 30-year teaching career in Van Wert, Ohio before securing a chemistry/physics teaching position at Stow Monroe Falls High school where he taught until his retirement in 2004. He was an active member of the Stow Monroe Falls Teachers’ Association where he enjoyed his role as a member of the bargaining unit. He also held a seat on the Ohio Board of Education, was an elected delegate to the annual conventions of both the Ohio Education Association and National Education Association and was an appointed member of the National Education Resources Committee.
Rob loved playing games of all kinds from computer and board games to cards, trivia contests, bowling and golf—all of which he especially loved if he won—which, according to him, was the great majority of the time. He loved music—particularly pop, Motown, disco, and oldies—rarely failing to identify an artist or tune if asked. He also loved 3-D movies, both in the theater and at home, and amassed quite a collection for his own 3-D TV.
Rob was preceded in death by his partner Gary Gray and his parents Roy and Mae. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Joanne and Gus Karos of Barberton, and sister Carolyn Skinner of North Little Rock, Arkansas as well as many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Rob’s life will be held at a future date.
