Robert W. "Bob" Farrell, 76, of Kent died Sunday, October 14, 2012 peacefully at his residence with family at his side.
He was born August 1, 1936 in Cleveland to Michael J. and Mae (Klaecan) Farrell.
Bob grew up in Cleveland and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1956. He was an outstanding athlete, playing sandlot baseball in Cleveland and basketball for John Marshall. He played fast-pitch softball for several Cleveland area adult leagues and threw one perfect game and two no hitters. He worked for the City of Cleveland in the Traffic Sign Dept. for 30 years. Mayor Michael White designated July 14, 1995 as Robert W. Farrell Day for his dedicated service and outstanding contributions to the City of Cleveland. He and Barbara raised their children in Hinckley where they resided for more than 40 years. Bob enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children, nephews, friends and granddaughter. He was a softball coach for many years for the Recreation Association of Hinckley and Highland High School (Medina Co.). He also enjoyed camping with his family and friends at Smokey Haven Campground in West Salem. Bob and Barb moved to Silver Oaks Senior Apartments (Kent) in 2008 and enjoyed many friendships with fellow residents. The family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their outstanding care of Bob for the past two months.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Crosley) Farrell, whom he married on July 23, 1966; son, Michael (Amy Rockwood) Farrell of Broadview Hts.; daughter, Elizabeth (Carl Bauer) Farrell of Kent; granddaughter, Evelyn Bauer of Kent, and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bernard Farrell, Bud Farrell, and sister, Donna Toth.
Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, October 16th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home 628 West Main Street Kent, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 17th with Kevin O' Brien, funeral celebrant, officiating.
