Robert R. Meeker, 88, of Kent, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at UH Portage Medical Center.
He was born January 26, 1928 in Kent, to Oscar and Lulu (Frinkley) Meeker. Robert was a 1946 graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School. He was a member of the Kent United Methodist Church. Robert was a member of Kent Rotary, past member of the Portage Board of Realtors, former President of the Kent Jaycees and Chamber of Commerce and Past President of Twin Lakes Country Club. Robert was a passionate supporter of Kent State University, their athletic programs and was a member of the Presidents Club. He was a member of the Rockton Lodge F&AM for over 60 years and the Tadmor Shriners in Akron. Robert enjoyed playing golf, card games, hunting, fishing, traveling and especially singing. He was the founder and leader of the KSU Kazoo Band.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara (Shepherd) Meeker; son, Rick (Cindy) Meeker of Lewis Center; daughter, Merry Ann (Kermit) Houser of Wexford, PA; daughter-in-law, Kathi Meeker of Kent; grandchildren, Nathan (Shi Hyun) Meeker of Seoul, Korea, Meghan (Scott) Meeker-Roger of Fairlawn, Brian (Jennifer) Meeker of North Canton, Kristin (Nate) Meeker-Hull of Cannon Beach, OR, Heather Foldi of North Ridgeville, Merry Elizabeth (Neel) Bhattacharjee of Syracuse, NY and Kermit (MC) Houser of Wexford, PA; nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Meeker; brothers, Paul and Carl Meeker; sisters, Esther Ireland, Mary Sweet and Doris Kreinberg McChesney.

Calling hours will be held 1-3 and 6-8 PM Sunday, October 9 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 10 at United Methodist Church of Kent with Rev. Dr. David Palmer and Rev. Douglas Denton officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
