Robert S. Miller, 88, of Kent, died Saturday, December 10, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1928, in Springfield, Ohio, to Raymond E. and Mary (Sexton) Miller. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950 and for ten years he served on minesweepers out of Charleston, SC; then for the next ten years he served aboard LSDs out of San Diego, CA. He stationed in Viet Nam three times, twice aboard LSD Catamount 17, and once in-country at the Naval Viet Nam Training Center in Na Trang. He retired in 1970 as a Chief Petty Officer. He then went to work as a building Engineer for Allstate Insurance in Hudson, where he worked for twenty years and retired again. For the next fifteen years he performed dealer trades for Marhofer Chevrolet in Stow, before his final retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. (Hannon) Miller, whom he married on December 27, 1962; son, Robert D. (Salome) Miller of Ontario, Canada; daughter, Mary Ellen (Gregory) Grom of Mauldin, SC; grandchildren, Griffin Grom and Morgan Grom; brother, David (Perle) Miller and their children Pam, Donald, Mary & Donna; brother-in-law, Albert Hannon and his daughters Diane and Erin; sister-in-law, Marianne Hannon and her children Joseph, Kerry, Marianne, and Kevin; and cousin Mary (Rollo) Marchant of Washington Court House, Ann Sharon Wheeler of Springfield and John (Gayle) Miller of Dunnellon, FL.
