Robert W. Stanton passed away peacefully on December 5th, 2015 at the Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio. Born in North Kingsville, Ohio on May 21, 1919 to Dean and Rose Elizabeth (Bugby) Stanton, he was raised on the family farm. He attended Houghton College and began his career as a teacher. Joining the Army Air Corps he served our country in WWII in the China Burma India Theater as a Communications Officer. After an honorable discharge as a Captain, he pursued further education receiving a Master's Degree from Western Reserve University and a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University.
He held various teaching and administrative positions including Principal of Willoughby High School and Principal of Kent Roosevelt, culminating in his serving as Superintendent of Kent City Schools.
After retiring from Kent City Schools, he served as Business Manager of Northeastern Ohio College of Medicine, and later returned to education as the Superintendent of Plainwell City Schools in Plainwell, Michigan.
Bob was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of Kent, served on the Kent State Orchestra Board, the Kent Free Library Board and was a Kent Rotarian.
An ardent supporter of education, he also loved to root on the Rough Riders. When the Stanton Middle School was named for him he was deeply honored and humbled.
He had great respect for all people and was kind and generous.
Bob loved classical music, reading, and Bible study. He also and had a passion for social justice.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Helen (Hamilton Schweitzer); his daughter, Carol (Evan) Morgan; son in law, Steve (Gail) McPeake; daughter in law, Erin Stanton; grandchildren, Jeremy Leighton (Brenda), Ethan (Janine) McPeake, Alex (Travis) Swiger, Daniel Kelleher, Evan Morgan, Jr., and Gracie Rose Morgan; three great grandchildren, Maurin Leighton, Harper McPeake, and Hunter McPeake; brother, Howard (Lucille); and sister, Mary Nelson (Richard, deceased).
He was preceded in death by his beloved children, John Stanton and Janet McPeake; and beloved granddaughter, Maurin McPeake.

Calling hours will be held 5-7 PM Tuesday, December 8th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 9th at Presbyterian Church of Kent with Rev.
