Robert (Bob) William Coe of Kent left this world for a better one on January 10, 2011. He will be joining his father Ernest William Coe and mother Nell Brown Coe, formerly of Athens, Ohio, and his sister Virginia Briggs and her husband Arthur Briggs, formerly of Twin Lakes. Robert is survived by his wife of many years, and now good friend, Florine Cotner Coe of Dandridge, TN; his son John Coe and daughter-in- law Diane Urchek Coe of Ravenna; his daughter Linda Coe Park and son-in-law Gary Park of Dandridge, TN; grandson Christopher Park of Nashville, TN.; granddaughter Rachel Park Hurt and husband Adlai Hurt of Strawberry Plains, TN. Bob will also be missed by long time friend June Bauer and family.
Born in Huntington, WVA May 2, 1918, his father moved them to Athens, Ohio in early 1930. Bob graduated from Ohio University in 1938 and was ever fond of his college years. While a student, Bob was the Football Manager and received the nickname of Bobcat Bob. He joined Phi Delta Theta and remained friends with many brothers. After college, Robert served in the Army OSS and was stationed in China and Burma during WWII. When the war was over, he came back to Athens, Ohio where he met and married his wife Florine Cotner Coe. They moved to Kent in 1954 when Bob started working as a State Auditor at Kent State University. He retired in1980 and spent the next 32 years being an avid Ohio University fan and supporter.
Arrangements have been made for family and friends to visit and say goodbye on Saturday, January 15th at 1:00 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent with a service at 2:00 p.m. and grave side service at Standing Rock Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Ohio University Foundation - Athletics, P.O. Box 869, Athens, Ohio, 45701-0869.
