Rodger Dale Groves

Rodger Dale Groves “Papa", dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away suddenly at his home on June 16, 2024, at the age of 70. He was born in Ravenna, OH on February 8, 1954 to the late Jesse and Nina Groves. He was a 1972 graduate of Windham High School, where he held the cross-country school record in the two mile.

Rodger was employed as a Supervisor for Smithers-Oasis Company in Kent for 47 years. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and WWE fan. He had a special love for dogs, but really all animals. His most recent favorite pastime was feeding and watching the animals from his front porch, his oasis. His number one priority in life was always taking care of others, most especially his beloved grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Rodger was preceded in death by his wife Terri in 2013; son Cody in 2017. He was also preceded in death by his brother Jeff.

He leaves his children, Rochelle Groves of Kent, Tera (Kevin) Dearstine of Hudson, and Ryan Groves of Columbus; grandchildren, Jordyn (Stefan Mitov) Groves, Rylyn Dearstine, Gabriel Groves, Madelyn Dearstine, Selena Groves, and Nathan Groves; great grandchildren, Terynn and Ashtyn; sisters, Nadine Hicks, Sharon Workman, and Sandra Taylor; and his best friend Marjie Bryant.

In honoring his wishes, a cremation will take place and the family will hold a private celebration of life.
