Rollo K. dela Fuente, 82, of Brimfield, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Akron City Hospital Medical Center.
He was born October 5, 1933 in Mountain Province, Philippines to Florentino and Nieves (Casumpang) dela Fuente. He earned his undergraduate degree in agriculture at the University of the Philippines. He then obtained his graduate degrees at the University of Hawaii and completed his postdoctoral work at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He is a Professor Emeritus of Plant Physiology at Kent State University. After retirement, he became a "gentleman farmer" growing Asian vegetables as well as raising cows, goats, and chickens. In the past year, he had worked with refugees with Asian Services In Action (ASIA) Inc. teaching farming techniques.
He is survived by his wife, Andre-Lina (Aglibut) dela Fuente, whom he married in 1961; sons, David dela Fuente of San Francisco, CA and J.V. (Michelle) dela Fuente of Rochester Hills, MI; grandchildren, Adam dela Fuente and Maggie dela Fuente; siblings, Braulio (Lily) dela Fuente of Philippines, Norma (Rey) Escote of Canton, MI, Gloria Araullo of Philippines, Mary (Tal) Akermanis, Julio (Letty) dela Fuente, Teresita (Mario) Meneses, Eleanor (Robert) Endaya, Linda (Chito) Cabatic all of Toronto, Canada, Jun (Tessie) dela Fuente of Ann Arbor, MI; and Nelia (Edgardo) Songco of Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Victoria (Catungal) dela Fuente; brother, Florentino dela Fuente Jr.; and sister, Lourdes dela Fuente.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 30th at University Parish Newman Center with Fr. Steve Agostino officiating.
