April 7, 1944 — November 27, 2023

Akron

Rosalyn (Rose) Dunlap-Gist, 79, of Akron, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Bath Manor Special Care Center. She was born in Detroit, MI on April 7, 1944 to the late Clarence and Helen Gist and was employed as a blind rehabilitation instructor with the Michigan Commission for the Blind.

Rose embraced everything Michigan where she lived most of her life. She loved searching for stones along the beach and watching the sunset over Lake Michigan. She graduated from Western Michigan University obtaining her master’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy. Rose provided home instruction to blind and visually impaired adults using adaptive techniques for successfully navigating their day-to-day lives. Rose was also very creative and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, ribbon embroidery, needlework, sewing and beading. She specialized in helping her clients continue their own hobbies using adaptive techniques developed to meet their needs. One would be remiss not to mention Tuwaqachi as her heart and soul remains there. Always.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother Vera Jean Gist; three sisters, Elizabeth, Helanie and Cynthia, and son-in-law Timothy.

She leaves her children, John (Yvonne) Machniak, Scott (Kathy) Machniak and Jill Gallagher; grandchildren, Anthony (Sarah), Emily, Matthew (Jana), Sarah (Arik), Andrea, Kelly, Jesse and Casey; and great grandchildren, Abigail, Benaiah, Caleb, Gabriel, Elijah and Isaiah.

In honoring her wishes, Rose will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at Holy Family Parish of Adrian, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make memorial donations to Ideastream Public Media at www.ideastream.org or your local public radio station/broadcasting company.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Summa Hospice and Palliative Care and Bath Manor for the wonderful care given to Rose.

Cremation services in the care of Bissler and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240.
