Rosemary D. Harrick, 82, of Kent, passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at Akron General Hospital.
She was born June 2,1929 in Kent, to George and Myrtle Mae (Struck) Derr.
Rosemary was a life long Kent resident. She received her BA in Education and Masters in Library Science from Kent State University. She was a dedicated librarian for over 50 years. She began her career at the Kent Free Library and spent the last 40 years at the KSU Library, retiring in 2001, as an Associate Professor. While at the KSU Library she served in a number of capacities, among which were Head of the Reference Dept. and Head of the Govt. Documents Division.
When she began her career with KSU, the Library was housed in the building which now is the School of Fashion Design. Rosemary was heavily involved in the setup and furnishings of the current library building during its construction.
She was a cat lover and had several feline friends over the years. She loved to read and garden. An apple, a good book, a comfortable chair on the screened porch was her idea of a great summer afternoon. Rosemary enjoyed mowing the lawn with her riding mower.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard D. Harrick, whom she married on September 5th, 1953 at St. Patrick Church. She leaves behind a large family of friends and neighbors. Family and loyalty were of prime importance to her.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice Webb, brother, Harold E Derr.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 27th. 2012 at United Methodist Church of Kent, Chapel 1435 E. Main Street Kent. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, OH 44266 or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler and Sons Funeral Home.
