Ruth S. Bordne

Ruth Seamans Bordne, 91, died on Sunday, September 26 at Maison Aine in Stow, where she had been a resident since April. She had previously lived in Kent for many years, most recently at Kentway. Born August 1, 1919, in Troy, NY, she was the third and last remaining child of Angus and Helen (Oothout) Seamans. Ruth was a retired Registered Nurse, having received her nurse's training at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N. Y. She was commissioned as a Navy nurse in World War II and served from 1944 to 1948. Ruth then attended Syracuse University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Public Health. After moving to Kent in 1966, she was employed at Robinson Memorial Hospital and at Kent Visiting Nurses. She worked diligently on any project for the benefit of Happy Day School and its students and was also an active member of its Parents Council. She was one of the founders of Residential Resources and served on its board for many years. A member of Kent Presbyterian Church, Ruth took an active role in her congregation. She was a board member of Hope Homes and interviewed families for Habitat for Humanity .Ruth enjoyed walking with Women Outdoors, making lap robes at Kentway, and weaving baskets. Her unique sense of humor and innate wisdom, as well as her impressive knowledge and use of the English language, endeared her to many. She will be greatly missed. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Susannah (Jerry) Bott, of Florida; her nephew Angus Seamans, III, of Louisiana; her nieces Gail Bristol, of Connecticut, Bonnie Wheeler, of New York, and Deborah Parker, of Arizona; and several great-( and great -great- ) nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Margaret (Meg), her brother Angus, Jr., her sisters Grace Gardner and Dorothy Verklas, and her niece Judy Gardner. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 16 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Harold Walker officiating. Burial will be 11:30 AM Monday, October 18th at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, with military honors.
