Ruth Cline Paton, 74, of Kent, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the presence of her family.
She was born July 31, 1941 in East Liverpool to Victor and Ida Mae (McKinney) Cline. Ruth received her Bachelor of Science in Health & Physical Education in 1964 and her Masters Degree in Education in 1969, both from Kent State University. She taught physical education in the Tallmadge and Rittman Schools, but spent most of her career at Windham Junior High and High School, retiring in 2005. During her tenure she served as teacher, media specialist and coach of track, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading and gymnastics. Ruth was a member of Alpha Chi Omega at Kent State University, Federated Democratic Women of Portage County, and Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary organization for women educators. She was a member of United Church of Christ, where she was a deacon and served on many committees for a number of years.
Ruth is survived by her loving children, Vicki (Mike Lalor) Bresnan of Janesville, WI, Kelly (Brek) Paton Jacobson of Kent, and Matthew (Jennifer) Paton of Jacksonville, FL; five adored grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Victor (Jan) Cline of Shelbyville, MO, Donna Jean Brown of Lisbon, James (Carolyn) Clunk of Columbiana and Sara (Bobby Hazlett) DeSimone of Hudson. She is also survived by cherished nephews, nieces, dear friends and neighbors, colleagues and golf partners. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Ida Mae Cline; sister, Violet Purton; and brother, Richard Cline.
A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at the Overlook in Kent on Sunday, June 19, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 1:30.
