Sandra J. Layman, age 78, of Aurora, formerly of Brimfield, Ohio, died on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Ahuja Medical Center.
Sandra was born June 9, 1943 in Hanover, PA to Abraham and Rosella (Garver) Nace. She graduated from Spring Grove (PA) High School in 1961 as Salutatorian, and studied music at Pennsylvania State University before having children. After moving to Ohio in 1967, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and also was active in the Brimfield Couples Club as well as being an avid gardener.
Sandra later received a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a B.A. in Music with emphasis on Organ from Kent State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude on both occasions. She spent many years as a church music director, including choral and hand bell responsibilities. In her later years as a resident of Anna Maria of Aurora ALF, she was active in local church activities and Bible study groups. She continued to play piano and sing vociferously as long as she was able, and still picked up her violin and clarinet on occasion. She also enjoyed researching her family genealogy and watching Cleveland sports teams on TV, as well as attending various concerts in the area.
She is survived by sons, Martin Layman of Aurora, Eric (Deborah) Layman of South Euclid; daughter, Karin (Edward) Conroy of Mogadore; former husband, Scott Layman of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren: Amanda (Ryan) Odell, Samantha Layman, Nathan Conroy, Ryan (Elaina) Conroy, Hannah Layman, Jordan Layman; brothers, Larry (Penny) Nace; Richard (Elaine) Nace, Gerald Nace, and Bryan (Karen) Nace. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Rosella Nace.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and nurses of Anna Maria of Aurora Assisted Living, where Sandra was a resident since 2012.
