Shirley Homer passed away on June 13, 2016 at the age of 80, and has gone to the Lord after a life time of battling serious illnesses. She leaves behind her husband Jerry; daughter, Mary Homer; son, Gary Homer; daughter-in-law, Afarin; and grandson, Arvand. Daughter of Dova and Roy Miner (both deceased), she was born in Wetzel County, WV and moved to Ohio as a child. In addition, she leaves behind her beloved sisters, Sandra Lattimer and Bonnie Jean Sisley; sisters-in-law, Margie and Sandy Homer; and brother-in-law, Robert Homer. From a large family, she will be missed by numerous cousins; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
Shirley and Jerry just reached their 62nd anniversary, and have resided in the Kent area during their long loving marriage. Aside from working in retail for a number of years, Shirley relished going to the Kent United Church of Christ where she was both a deacon for over 16 years, and was a past officer of their Circle E program for women. She also enjoyed Bible Study, and attended church when her health allowed her to do so.
In spite of having so many health issues, Shirley remained positive, and was a very giving person. She will be sorely missed by all whom knew her.
In lieu of flowers, please give bequests to the Mental Health Ministry at the Kent United Church of Christ, 1400 E. Main Street, Kent, Ohio 44240.
