Stanley Alfonso Ambrose died of heart disease on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. He was born in Brimfield, Ohio, on May 2, 1926. A devoted husband, father, brother, and son, Stan was happiest to spend time with family and friends at home on the farm where he lived his entire life. At age 18 he left this beloved home to defend his kin and country. Stan served the United States Army during WWII; he was awarded decorations and commendations before his honorable discharge. He was proud to be an active member of the Catholic War Veterans.
Shortly after his return to Brimfield from the Asiatic Theatre, Stan met through mutual friends the love of his life, Caroline Petrovics. Caroline and Stan were married in 1950; they celebrated their 66th anniversary in February of this year.
In his youth Stan loved playing sports. He covered center field for the Brimfield Merchants and spent time hunting and fishing for the family dinner table. His love for sports kept him active throughout his life. At age 85, Stan rolled a perfect 300 game at Kent Lanes in the Tuesday Senior League.
Stan was truly good. Generous and fun loving, he shared with his children and grandchildren everything from how to plant potatoes and garlic to the ABC's of electronics and physics. He was a self-taught musician, singing and playing multiple instruments. Stan and Caroline instilled a long lasting love of music in all their children and grandchildren. Stan was a wonderful harmonica player. His talents made especially fun bonfires and hayride parties. When we hear the song You Are My Sunshine, we will remember Stan.
Stan was a devout Catholic; he helped found the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Peter of the Fields. A funeral mass and memorial is planned for summer, time and date to be determined.
Stan was preceded in death by parents, Antonia and Thomas Ambrose; brothers, Andrew and Thomas; sisters, Mary, Victoria, and Helen; and sons, Stanley Paul and Thomas Andrew. Stanley is survived by his wife, Caroline Virginia Ambrose; daughters, Christine Ambrose, Susan Ambrose Getz ( Brian Getz), and Mary Ambrose (Marcel Boast); son, William Ambrose (Silvia Manfredini Ambrose); daughter-in-law, Pam Ambrose; grandchildren, Stacey and Stanley Ross Ambrose, Caroline and Harold Getz, Sofia Ambrose, John Sebastian and William James Ambrose; great granddaughter, Lily Ambrose; and many well-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, his church community, and friends. We mourn his passing while celebrating a life well-lived. We will miss you Stan!
