Stella Lucille (Giacchetta) Markham, 67, of Kent, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 after a 9 month courageous fight against cancer.
Born in Abruzzi, Italy, Stella grew up in Ravenna where she graduated Ravenna High School in 1964, and spent the last 40 years of her life in Kent, Ohio.
Stella was a small business owner for many years until finally retiring in 1998. She was a longtime member of the Kent Elks Club.
Stella will always be remembered for many of her best qualities. She was a hard working single parent who overcame adversity her entire life. After being diagnosed with polio at the age of 2, she never let that hold her back. The way she dealt with this disease made her an inspiration to all. Her love for family made every special occasion that much better.
To know Stella was to know her cooking. Her spaghetti sauce was second to none, along with many other authentic Italian dishes. Stella was a self-taught cook who loved feeding others and sharing some of her favorite recipes.
She is survived by her sons, Ryan (Sarah) Markham, and Todd Markham; grandsons, Dylan and Gavin Markham; and sister Donna (Edward) Toth of Saline, MI along with many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances. Stella will never be forgotten for the lives that she touched.
Calling hours will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 13th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home 628 West Main Street in Kent. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm with Kevin O'Brien officiating.
