Stephen Mandalari, our much loved husband, father and grandfather passed away, at 92, with his family beside him at SUMMA Akron City Hospital on June 11, 2014.
Stephen was born May 17, 1922 in Kent. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School. He married the light of his life, Rosemarie Audino, on November 21, 1954 and they spent 60 incredible years together with their 4 daughters and their families. Besides his wife he leaves behind, Julie (Alan) Spalding, Jean (Tom) Geopfert, Joyce (James) Bowen and Jackie (William) Reilly, and the grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Lauren, AJ & Stephen Spalding, Frank & Maria Bowen, Rachel & Regina Reilly.
Stephen worked at C.L. Gougler Machine Company in Kent. He proudly served his country during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the Army from 1942 to 1945.
His life was filled with countless acts of kindness and works of charity. He was a lifelong member of St Patrick Parish in Kent where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a 4th Degree Life Member in the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Christopher Columbus Society and the Optimists Club. He worked tirelessly for The American Heart Association, for Local Hospital Blood Banks, for the Retired Senior Volunteers Program, Boy Scouts, KentFest and UAW. He was the family patriarch and inspiration for his grandchildren to form the Kids 4 Coleman which focuses on fund raising and support for Coleman Adult Day Services.
Stephen was a man who found the joy in life and who lived with great faith. He has passed his joy and faith and love of giving on to his family. Our home was rich with love and laughter. We will miss him but will always be grateful for the many years we shared.
"A man's most lasting influence on the world is seen in the faces of his family…in the light in their eyes when they talk about him…in the love they will hold on to forever. Here's to a good man- the life he lived, the hearts he touched, the legacy he left behind in us."
A private mass at St. Patrick Church and burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery have taken place.
A celebration of his life will take place at an open house at Roses Run Country Club, 2636 North River Rd, Stow, OH 44224 in the Derby Room on Sunday, July 13, 2014, from 10:00am to 1pm.
