Steve J. Messino, 88, of Kent, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 5, 2013. He was born April 5, 1925, to Giuseppe and Anna Messino. He graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School and is a World War II veteran. He served proudly in the US Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for the Erie Railroad, Flintkote Company and the Kent City School System until his retirement. He was an active member of St. Patrick Church (playing cards on Thursday afternoons) and an avid sports fan.
In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Lawrence and brother-in-law, John Mendiola. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Cecilia (Mendiola) Messino; sons, Dr. Michael (Chris) Messino of Fletcher, NC, Matt (Jeanette) Messino of Brimfield and Mark (Sue) Messino of Cambridge, OH; daughters Ann Marie and Susan Messino of Kent; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bernice Mendiola of Barberton; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 West Main Street, Kent, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kent with Father Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery,
