Susan Marie (Shanley) France

Susan Marie France, age 62, of Stow, OH, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at her home.

Susan was born April 6, 1962 in Ravenna, OH, to the late Lawrence and Janet (Burridge) Shanley. She is a graduate from Kent Roosevelt High School. She spent the last 22 years working for Akron General.

Sue was an avid Cleveland sports fan regardless of all the ups and downs they put her through. When the opportunity came around, she enjoyed going to a game cheering on loudly. Her love of sports carried on to her sons, Chris, and Michael, as they watched or played games and collected memorabilia.

Her love of animals was profound. From the small blue jays that she rescued and raised at home all the way to the horses she cared for. She would spoil all the family pets including her “granddog” Diesel.

Being outdoors was her happy place. She loved going fishing with her father as a child and it continued into adulthood. Once Chris and Michael were old enough, they joined in the fishing fun at the dock where they spent countless afternoons. Her passion for gardening and canning came from her mother. Sue spent many hours in the kitchen with family making pasta sauce to can with the tomatoes from her garden. She then passed her canning knowledge to her kids.

Becoming a grandmother was such a joy for her. She loved Riley and McKenna so much. She would lay on the floor playing with them for hours with the biggest smile on her face.

She is survived by her children, Chris (Jenn) Shanley Stow, OH; Michael France; brothers, Tom (Patti) Shanley, Gerald (Kristi) Shanley, Dean Shanley, Patrick Shanley, Brian (Stacy) Shanley; granddaughters, Riley and McKenna. She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Shanley, mother, Janet Shanley, brother, Tim Shanley, and sister, Diane Shanley.

At her request, cremation has taken place at Bissler & Sons Crematory and a private family inurnment will take place at Standing Rock Cemetery.
