Susan L. Friedman, age 73 of Ravenna, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023 in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was born January 20, 1950 in Ravenna to the late Ronald and Leona Haiflich of Charlestown, OH.
Susan was known by Susi to her close friends and family. Some of her favorite other names to be called were Mom, Mama, Aunt Susi and Mrs. Friedman, used by thousands of students in the Southeast School District throughout her 36 plus years of teaching elementary school. It was her calling and she loved it. Every year she read her favorite children’s book, Charlotte’s Web, to her class. And every year she cried like it was the first time. She loved when former students would greet her out in public when they saw her, most recently in November of this past year.
Susi was always thinking of others and one way she shared her compassion towards her friends and family was by making greeting cards. She put detail and thought into each card she made and will be remembered by this very special way that she shared her love to others.
After retirement she and her husband spent each winter living as “snowbirds” in Fort Myers, Florida. Susi was socially active with many of the clubs and groups in their community, Chorus and Bingo being some of her favorites.
At home Susi was very active in her church. Over the years she led worship and sang in the Choir, taught Youth, served in Christian Education and the Women’s Group. She loved chaperoning Youth Conventions and directing Children’s Christmas programs. Susi loved the Lord with all her heart, and she shared often that one of her biggest blessings was knowing her children do also. Her greatest desire was that all would come to know this life changing love of Christ.
Susi loved spending time with her family. She was aways kind, always smiling, and always looking for only the good in others. She never went to a gathering or party empty-handed and didn’t say goodbye without a hug. She had a soft, gentle presence and loved immensely.
Susan is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Harry Friedman; children, Renee & Tom Noland, Mandee & Joe Scott, Nick & Lydia (Rummell) Friedman and stepdaughter Cindee & Tony Pierre; grandchildren; Tiffany, Jonathan & Cole Noland, Jacob and Hannah Scott, Derek and Logan Friedman, Desiree, Tyler (Teal), and Zack (Tara) Pierre. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren; brother Douglas (Karen) Hailfich, sister Becky (Fred) Harting, and brother-in-law Leeon Phile. She will be missed by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her Aunt Barbara Brode.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Nancy Phile.
