Susan Louise “Sue” Jeffers, born September 3, 1964, passed away on January 1, 2023, due to a devastating hemorrhagic stroke. Even in her passing Sue continues to help others by being an organ and tissue donor.
Sue was an accomplished musician and songwriter. Throughout the pandemic she brightened our lives and made us feel less alone with her broadcasts of “Sequester with Sue”. She was a talented musician, a folk singer and songwriter with multiple released albums. Sue toured locally as well as nationally. She loved Kent and will forever be a foundational spirit of the Kent folk hippy community. She was a social justice warrior in everything that she did. Sue received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Kent State University in areas of Peace studies. She was a regular at the candlelight vigils, May 4th Kent State Memorials, Kent Folk Festival, anti-war protests, equality rallies, anti-fracking protests among many other social justice activism movements throughout her life. For a time, she worked for Greenpeace while living in California during her early 20s. She worked for many years with her father as a computer programmer at his business, Alliance Physics and Measurements. Sue obtained her license as a massage therapist and opened her business, Open Hands Massage in downtown Kent, where she helped so many people regardless of their financial abilities. Sue will be remembered by those lucky enough to have met her as a kind, generous, loving, caring and helpful soul.
She never met an instrument she could not play, or a person who needed help she was not there for. She was an avid advocate, and an activist. Sue was many things to many people, and she will be so very missed. She is survived by her parents, Larry and Charline Jeffers, her sisters, Pam McIntosh (Scott) and Jen Henderson, her brother James Jeffers (Tensing); her nieces Lina Jeffers, Kayla Johnson (Justin), Elizabeth Molla and Megan Miranda (Tom); her great nieces Azalea, Cailey and Josie and great nephews Brayden and Colton.
We hope to honor her with a memorial this spring.
