Susan Messino, 59, of Kent, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a lifelong battle with a chronic blood disease, thalassemia. She was born October 14, 1955 in Akron to Steve and Cecilia (Mendiola) Messino.
She graduated from Kent State University with B.S. in microbiology. She then completed certification at St. Thomas Hospital as a medical technologist. She was a 1974 graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School.
Susan worked as a medical technologist at Cuyahoga Falls General (Summa Western Reserve) and previously at St. Thomas Hospital. After health issues forced her to retire, she continued on for several years as a volunteer at Cuyahoga Falls General.
She was an active member of St. Patrick Church, making rosaries which she donated to missions.
She is survived by her mother, Cecilia (Mendiola) Messino of Kent; sister, Ann Marie Messino of Kent; brothers, Michael (Chris) Messino of Fletcher, North Carolina, Matthew (Jeanette) Messino of Brimfield, and Mark (Sue) Messino of Cambridge; nine nieces and nephews; and six great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Steve Messino.
Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main Street, Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kent with Father Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery.
The family would especially like to thank the staff for the wonderful care and compassion for our loved one at Robinson Memorial Hospital and Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice.
