Suzanne E. Smith

June 26, 1957 — January 28, 2019

Suzanne E. "Sue" Smith, 61, of Kent, passed away at her home on Monday, January 28, 2019 after an extended illness.

She was born in Ravenna on June 26, 1957. She was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School and attended Bowling Green State University where she earned a degree in Fashion Merchandising. After post-graduate work at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, she took a job at a major swimwear manufacturer in New Haven CT, where she served as production manager for much of her professional career. Living in nearby Branford CT, she enjoyed fishing in Long Island Sound. Sue returned to Kent in the early 2000's and was employed at Kent State University in the Department of Student Accessibility Services. She found great enjoyment in adapting curricula and coordinating support services to help students with disabilities succeed at KSU. She was an avid golfer who enjoyed competing in the employee leagues at KSU. Sue was a devoted fan of KSU Basketball and loved cheering for her Golden Flashes with her friends, Cara "Hoopsie" Desko, and Dick and Betty Jacoby. She was an excellent cook and served as master chef at all special holiday dinners.

Survivors include her mother, Laverne Smith; and brother, David Smith of Kent; aunt, Diana Moscoe of Ravenna; cousin, Nancy Flogge of Stow; and niece, Laura G. Smith of Kent. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Veronica Moscoe; father, O.E. "Gene" Smith; aunt, Dorothy Flogge; uncle, Charles Flogge; sister-in-law, Ruth Smith; and husband, Steven Curry. She will be missed by her many friends and acquaintances.
