Thomas A. Smith, 95, of Kent, died peacefully on August 7, 2022. He joined his beloved wife, Theresa, for eternity with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Tom was born January 16, 1927 in Altoona, PA. He moved with his family to Kent, Ohio in 1943. He served our country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1947. Tom married Theresa Nelson on January 24, 1948. Tom and his partner, Chuck Szeles, started their business, Kent Plumbing and Heating and enjoyed 25 years of success. He and Theresa were avid golfers and won many tournaments both in Kent and Palm City Florida.
Tom is survived by his brother Frank Smith of Palm Beach, FL. and sister Mary Lou Johnston of Steam Boat Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters: Bob, Walt, Dick, Jerry, Jack, Catherine and Joanne. Tom is survived by his six children: David (Robyn) Smith of Ellet, Cathy (Gary) Knapp of Stow, Bob (Kathy) Smith of Naples, FL., Paul (Beth) Smith of State College, PA., Peggy (Greg) Morgan of Whidbey Island, WA., and Laura (John) Pavel of Warren, OH. He also leaves eleven grandchildren: Stephen, Timothy, Kristin, Olivia, Lauren, Joseph, Stephanie, Gig, Seth, Anthony and Brooke and thirteen great grandchildren.
Prayer services will begin at 9:00AM, Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 313 N. Depeyster St. Kent, OH 44240, with the Rev. Fr. Richard Pentello as Celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will take place at Standing Rock Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life following services. All our welcome.
