Vernon Russell Clapp, 90, of Indian Trail, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Charlotte, NC.
He was born December 29, 1922 in Kent to Arthur and Helen (Babb) Clapp.
Vernon was a retired Master Plumber. Before he moved from Rootstown, he was an active member of St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church where he was a lector, Parish Council Member and a member of the K of C. He was involved in the Canton Cursillo, was a member of the Brimfield Lions and was a veteran of WWII where he fought in the European Theater. He enjoyed his grandchildren, puttering in his shop and playing cards. He and his wife were married on November 28, 1942.
He is survived by his wife Angeline (Schossler) Clapp; sons, Vernon (Bernice) Clapp of Greenville, FL, Patrick (Patti) Clapp of Charlotte, NC, Arthur (Linda) Clapp of Ravenna, George (Margaret) Clapp of Mantua, Daniel Clapp of Social Circle, GA, David (Susan) Clapp of Rootstown, Thomas Clapp of Akron, Andrew (Crystal) Clapp of Concord, NC; daughters, Cecilia (Neal) Parker of Indian Trail, NC, Carolyn (Robert) Koon of Doyle , TN; 37 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest Clapp and Rexford Clapp; and sister, Florence Smeiles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Monday, June 17th at St. Peter of the Fields Church with Father David Misbrener officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be at St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
