Victor Herbert Reed

September 7, 1943 — May 1, 2017

Victor Herbert Reed died Monday, May 1st, with his family by his side at his winter retreat in Hudson Beach, FL. He was 73.

Born in Indiana on September 7, 1943 to parents Glenn and Margaret (Israel) Reed, Vic grew up in Kent, and later raised a family in Mantua. A graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School and Kent State University, Vic was a lifelong educator, teaching math and computer science at Davey Junior High School in Kent. Vic pioneered Davey's first computer science program, armed with his love of teaching and an arsenal of Commodore 64 computers. He was a member of the Kent VFW and St. Joseph Church in Mantua.

A lover of nature and the outdoors, Vic was often seen outside, splitting wood, enjoying the sunshine, or buying lottery tickets. He enjoyed escaping Ohio winters, and spent many of them in Florida, provided he did not have to fly, or drive over any long bridges.

Vic married Marcia (Zalewski) Reed on December 11, 1965. Marcia was the true love and focus of his life, and we know Vic is eternally grateful for the love and care she has given him over 51 years of marriage.

Vic was a sports fan, spending many years cheering on his daughter Amy while she broke several school track records. He was also very skilled in delivering advice to basketball referees from the stands.

Vic endured many of his son Mitch's garage rock band rehearsals, and was Mitch's biggest music fan. He never once asked them to turn it down, nor did he miss a performance. He enjoyed classic rock, and created a dance to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" that has never been duplicated.

Vic is survived by his wife, Marcia; daughter, Amy Jo (Norm) Friedman; grandsons, Dann and Glenn Friedman; son, Mitch (Kerry) Reed; and granddaughter, Darcy Reed.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 9th, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent from 4-7pm. The funeral will be held Wednesday May 10th at St. Joseph Church in Mantua at 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, OH 44266 in Vic's name would be greatly appreciated by Vic and his family.
