Vivian A. Hoskins-Stroup

Vivian A. Hoskins-Stroup, 95, of Stow, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at Stow- Glen Retirement Center. She was born October 29,1914 in Palmyra, to L.L. and Cora Belle (Allison) Allen. Vivian was a graduate of Deerfield High School where she played on the girls championship basketball team. She could still sink foul shots at age 75. She attended Case Western Reserve School of Nursing & Mount Union College. Vivian was a member of the United Methodist Church in Deerfield and Kent, Daughters of the American Revolution (Old Northwest Chapter), Palmy Chapter #114 Order of Eastern Star, Portage County Historical Society and a Life Member of Portage County Genealogy Society. Following the death of her father, L.L Allen, she became owner operator of Deerfield Radio Sales, the family business. Her passion was life long learning and her joy was sharing time with family and many friends. She is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Jay) Simmons of Portage Lakes, Vida (Ted) Freeman of San Anselmo, CA, and Lynn Troutman of Buena Vista, VA; grandchildren, Julia (Edward) Cerepak of San Mateo, CA, Michael Nichols of Simpsonville, SC, Lisa Freeman of San Francisco, CA, Ned (Melissa) Freeman of San Anselmo, CA, Bryan Troutman of Lexington, VA, and Mark Troutman of Boulder City, NV; great grandchildren, Cara Cerepak, Raymond Cerepak, James Cerepak, Pace Freeman, Jordy Freeman, Nash Freeman, and Tyler Troutman Lemmer; great great grandson, Ryan Donati; aunt, Helen (Irvin) Allison; cousin Billie Pat Reynolds; and nephews Doug Moore and Larry (Donna) Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Hoskins; parents, L.L. and Cora Belle Allen; sister, Novello (Archie) Moore, and husband Leslie Stroup. Funeral services will be held 5 PM Saturday February 20th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main Street, Kent, where friends may call 4pm until time of service. A committal service will be held 1 PM Monday in the chapel of Deerfield Cemetery . Memorials may be made in her name to the Deerfield Cemetery Assn. c/o Jerry Shilling P.O.
